Reserve September 17 (Wednesday)-21 (Sunday) 2008 in your calendar for a trip to Krakow, Poland!

We would like to invite you to attend the EUROPEAN CONFERENCE - MEDICAL PHYSICS AND ENGINEERING 110 YEARS AFTER THE DISCOVERY OF POLONIUM AND RADIUM which will take place between September 17th and 21st, 2008 in Krakow, the old capital of Poland, homeland of Marie Sklodowska-Curie, who first isolated and described these elements. This Conference will coincide with the 14th CONGRESS OF THE POLISH SOCIETY OF MEDICAL PHYSICS and the EFOMP COUNCIL AND OFFICER'S MEETING, so we expect our meeting to be an important event in European medical physics in the coming year 2008.

Information and communication technologies, micro- and nano-systems, optics and biotechnology, biosensors, and radiation physics broadly applied in the areas of Medical Physics and Bio-engineering, are the main contributors to progress in modern medicine and health care. The European efforts in these areas are largely stimulated by the EU Framework Programmes, such as the MAESTRO 6th FP (Methods and Advanced Equipment for Simulation and Treatment in Radiation Oncology), which will hold a Workshop-Symposium MULTIMODAL TECHNOLOGY FOR DOSE DELIVERY AND VERIFICATION IN RADIOTHERAPY during our European Conference. Within the European Conference we will also organise a Workshop RADIATION PROTECTION OF THE PATIENT and a Tutorial UNIFICATION OF REQUIREMENTS REGARDING THE MEDICAL PHYSICS PROFESSION IN EUROPE, to cover the academic teaching and professional training aspects of Medical Physics in different European countries.

Krakow (http://www.krakow.pl/en/), the jewel of Polish history, home of the Jagiellonian University since 1364, and a major academic centre in Poland today, is an ideal choice for holding the EUROPEAN CONFERENCE. It will be held at the Faculty of Physics and Applied Computer Science of the AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow, a leading Polish academic and research institution, also in the areas of medical physics and bio-engineering.

Krakow is close to our hearts as it also happens to be the city in which both of us live and work. We welcome you to Krakow most cordially and invite you to respond through our website http://mpekrak08.ftj.agh.edu.pl as soon as possible!
